The Important Lesson Arianna Huffington Taught Me… About Myself

Arianna Huffington first appeared on my radar about a year and a half ago when she did a talk for my school about success in life and business. I was instantly charmed by her intelligence and her demeanor, and proceeded to follow her on every social media outlet where I could find her.Fast forward, one year. While aimlessly scrolling through Twitter one night a random post caught my eye – something to the effect of, “Just signed up for Arianna Huffington’s “Thrive” O-Course! Can’t wait!” Intrigued, I clicked the link to learn more. My business idol herself was running a six-week online course based off of her super-inspiring book, “Thrive”. The course included guest lectures, tips and advice from her own experiences, a copy of her book, and best of all, a weekly call where she answered our questions live! Needless to say, I signed up immediately. I knew it would be a tight fit as I was already enrolled in another course, but I couldn’t resist the opportunity to learn from a woman I admired so much.

My six weeks spent under the guidance of Arianna Huffington were every bit as inspiring and informative as I expected they would be. She taught us the importance of sleep for our health, time- and stress-management skills, the benefits of a daily tech detox, and so much more. What I did not anticipate, however, was the important lesson she taught me about myself:

I AM ENOUGH.

I noticed a pattern during the first few weeks of the Thrive O-Course. While taking notes and nodding along with the lectures, I kept thinking “Good, I already do this”. During the sleep talk, while I did pick up some terrific tips (like keeping a separate playlist solely for soothing sleep music), I said to myself over and over “I do this, I do this.” Making sleep a priority is something I adopted into my life a few years ago and now I have a solid nighttime routine in place. When Arianna spoke about performing a weekly “Life Audit” of all of your goals, big and small, I realized I already do this in the form of a “Weekly Note to Self” (however, I have since begun referring to it as a “Life Audit” as well). On and on, the life advice she gave resonated with me so strongly because they were already deep-rooted habits and beliefs of mine. That’s when I realized: I AM on the right path. I AM doing okay.

I AM ENOUGH.

Just to be clear, my realization was not that I’m doing fine because Arianna Huffington said so. (Although it’d be reason enough for me!) Her powerful words were the reminder I needed, at the time I needed it, to assure me that I was on the right path because it’s MY path. Every step I take is because it feels natural to me, and it took a long time before I knew myself well enough to know what that even meant. My true, authentic self shines through in everything I do. Arianna’s Thrive Course simply gave me the information I needed to realize it. For that, and so many other things, I am so grateful to her.
