Lena Waithe – Closing Keynote

Emmy Award Winning Writer, Producer and Actor

Lena Waithe is one of Hollywood’s most promising up-and-coming talents, who continues to grow her body of work with diversity, charisma, and comedy.

Waithe expertly taps into emerging cultural sensibilities with a sharp wit, speaking to myriad experiences from her unique perspective and challenging audiences to think outside of conventional norms.

In September 2017, she became the first black woman to win an Emmy for comedy writing for co-writing the “Thanksgiving” episode of Netflix’s critically acclaimed series, Master of None.  Waithe is the Creator and Executive Producer of The Chi, a relevant, timely, and distinctive coming-of-age story that follows six interrelated characters in Chicago’s South Side.

In January 2018, she guest starred on the NBC drama, This is Us and in Spring 2018, she will appear in Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One film, based on Ernest Cline’s 2011 science fiction and dystopian novel, which follows the players of virtual reality simulator OASIS, who are pitted against each other in the search of fame and fortune that will save them from their declining world.

We are excited to have Lena close out this year’s Women’s Leadership Conference to bring us inside her story, to learn how she “crafts multifaceted human beings who inspire compassion and curiosity”, and to be inspired by the firsts that she has accomplished, through hard work and authentic storytelling.
